I’ve never explained this properly, now I will. If you have any doubts feel free to AMA.

1-New Car Market.

Our example will be the 2015 Mercedes-Benz GLA200 Vision, one of the most popular new Mercs around here and also a car with many armored versions driving around.

Kinja'd!!!

Brand New Mercedes Benz GLA200 Vision- $43,000

This is the normal version, the process of armoring it is performed by aftermarket companies, not Mercedes itself, most of them have pretty accessible payment plans and 10 year warranty, which means thicker glass, reinforced body panels, kevlar and all that stuff, it now looks like the car in the picture down here.

Brand New Mercedes Benz GLA200 Vision Armored- $61,600

It looks and drives the same way a normal Merc would, has the same ride height and the same driving dynamics, the extra weight amounts to the same as having a slightly overweight passenger at all times and the doors are slightly heavier.

2-Used Car Market.

Here things get more interesting, armored cars depreciate at a higher rate when compared to their unsafer counterparts, that means you can get a used armored car for a just a bit more, or the same price of a similar normal used car.

Our example is a 30k miles 2008 Hyundai Azera, a very common sedan here.

Kinja'd!!!

Here we have the normal version, 28k miles for $12,300, a pretty good beige car, especially in a country where most people drive econoboxes.

Kinja'd!!!

And here we have the same one, NIIIA armoring, 30k miles for $13,000, a safe armored sedan for peanuts. For added info, this is what you can buy brand new for $13,000 here (Not armored obviously).

Kinja'd!!!

With cloth seats, manual gearbox, and a non turbo 1.0 engine.

Also, handy guide, we are only allowed NIII-A levels or armoring here, unless you have express permission from the gubernment.

Kinja'd!!!

And why are your cars armored Citroen? Why people do that? The answer is in this fun read.

Can you help BlazinAce get an armored car so he doesn’t get Sao Paulo’d while going to med school?

Very interesting! What proportion of local vehicles would you estimate to be armored?

I actually don’t know where he is in Brazil, but I do know things down there have been... less than good.

The more I think about it the more worried I get...I mean if something happened to him, there’d be no way to know. To us, it’d look like he stopped visiting the board. I wish I had the power to do more than just wish him well and worry.

Not sure, but last year another 8000 were armored, not sure on the total count since regular cars have been armored here since the 1990’s.

Is it a must to have armored cars? I mean, if regular cars has to be armored, isn’t that a place you wouldnt want to live in?

It’s just part of our reality, you may not need to have your car armored, you may never even get robbed here in your entire life, but it happens and moving countries isn’t the simplest thing to do.
